YFZ suddenly stopped, and then worked again. Need help troubleshooting.

I need help on this. My old YFZ gave up today. 15 years of service, and it gave up just like that, but I'm hoping I could still do something so I dropped by this forum for my last resort or something. It kind of let out a choking sound while I was slowing down luckily, then it's just gone. Just like that. I was still a looong way to go, so I tried to restart. Nothing happened, not even a peep. I ended up pushing the ATV all the way home, like 15 blocks, restarting in between tryna kick life into it, but really nothing. 2 blocks away, it started functioning well? Miracle? No, I was pissed. What the heck happened here?

Check your fuel and fuel filter dude. Happens at dunes.

I think this is just temporary. Or it didn't give up just like that because it's been 15 yrs after all. It's a temporary thing so do check your ignition coil and fuel delivery. Or if you really wanna save it, go bring it to the mechanic before it gets worse.

Well, If your quad has an aftermarket carb without the tors plug, it just might not idle properly. Try to fix it by by adding a jumper wire to complete the CDI circuit.

If it's just a quick puff at startup that clears, you're usually fine to run it a few blocks while you troubleshoot. But if it keeps smoking or blows white clouds continuously, park it and pull the dipstick to check for overfill or wrong oil grade before riding more. What oil weight did they use, and where's the level on the stick?

That might b a clogged jet, dirty carb, or even a loose connection that sorted itself out with all the pushing. I'd say start with a full carb clean and check the wiring harness for any sketchy spots.

I see that no one mentioned this, so here I go. Have you check the ground? Also, it's been a while, did you manage to fix it or you're still trying to figure things out?

Hey @bergdorf, that kind of cut-out then magically coming back usually points to fuel or an electrical connection. I’d start with the fuel filter, carb, and grounds. Did you ever track down what it ended up being?
